U.S. Soldier: Removing Cross is Attack on Christianity

U.S. soldiers assigned to Camp Marmal in northern Afghanistan said the removal of a cross from an Army chapel has created a “huge controversy” and at least one soldier called it a “direct attack against Christianity and Judaism.”

A Pentagon spokesman told Fox News & Commentary that the cross was removed after someone complained. He also said the cross violated Army regulations.

“Military chapels have to be open to all denominations and as such can’t have permanent symbols of one particular religion or another,” said Commander Williams Speaks.

The chapel is used for general Protestant services and a Baptist church service. There is a smaller chapel used for other services. The camp also has a mosque and a German chapel that is used for Catholic services.

Speaks said the cross was erected about a month ago – but when questions were raised the Army unit’s chaplain consulted the rules and “realized that taking it down was the appropriate thing to do.”

Army Regulation 165-1, 12-3k states:”The chapel environment will be religiously neutral when the facility is not being used for scheduled worship. Portable religious symbols, icons, or statues may be used within a chapel during times of religious worship.”

“Symbols are to be moved or covered when not in use during services. Distinctive religious symbols, such as crosses, crucifixes, the Star of David, Menorah, and other religious symbols will not be affixed or displayed permanently on the chapel interior, exterior, or grounds. Permanent or fixed chapel furnishings, such as the altar, pulpit, lectern, or communion rail will be devoid of distinctive religious symbols.”

A soldier stationed at Camp Marmal contacted Fox News & Commentary and said soldiers are very upset that the cross was removed.

“My personal feeling is that it is a direct attack against Christianity and Judaism,” said the soldier who asked not to be identified. “When you look at the regulation and you notice the four items directly quoted are crosses, crucifixes, the Star of David and the Menorah.”

The Army regulation makes no specific mention of the wheel of Dharma, Pentagram, Pentacle, Star and Crescent or the Yin and Yang symbol, he noted.

“There is a huge controversy about the cross removal,” the soldier said. “There are several like myself who never knew such a regulation existed and are speaking out about it.”

However, Speaks said there had been complaints.

“I’ve also heard that there were some that were upset about the cross to begin with,” he told Fox News. “Our job as military service members is to abide by the UCMJ and other regulations to ensure that all religious denominations and religious of our service members are treated fairly.

And that is accomplished by taking down the Christian symbol?

Speaks said it is his understanding that the rule applies not just to that particular camp – but all military chapels.

Some conservative leaders said it’s proof of an effort underway to sanitize the military and country of Christianity.

“What’s the purpose of a chapel?” asked Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council. “The timing of this – what a way to celebrate Thanksgiving.”

“There’s a sole purpose of a chapel and it’s to worship – whether it’s Catholic or Protestant. Americans who serve in the military are overwhelmingly Christian.”

The soldier said the military is not hostile towards religion. Instead, he called it a direct attack from secularists and atheists.

“If they are able to erase Christian symbols from the military, then it can be pushed to be erased in the private sector,” he said. However, rules are rules, he said – and in spite of his personal beliefs the soldier said he will follow Army regulations.

“As a soldier, I will follow the orders,” he said.

“My fight is not to have the cross put back up,” the solider told Fox News. “My fight is to have the regulation changed."

What I am about to tell you is something you've probably never heard or will ever read in history books.

I believe that I am an eyewitness to history.
I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history.
We elected him by a landslide - 98% of the vote.
I've never read that in any American publications.
Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.

In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates.
Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily.
Young people were going from house to house begging for food.
Not that they didn't want to work; there simply weren't any jobs.

My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need.
Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people - about 30 daily.

The Communist Party and the National Socialist Party were fighting each other.
Blocks and blocks of cities like Vienna, Linz, and Graz were destroyed.   The people became desperate and petitioned the government to let them decide what kind of government they wanted.

We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany, where Hitler had been in power since 1933.   We had been told that they didn't have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living.   Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group -- Jewish or otherwise. We were led to believe that everyone was happy.

We wanted the same way of life in Austria. We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back. Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.

We were overjoyed, and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades.   The new government opened up big field kitchens and everyone was fed.

After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order. Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed. The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service.

Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women.
Before this, it was a custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home.   An able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn't support his family. Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.

Hitler Targets Education - Eliminates Religious Instruction for Children:
Our education was nationalized. I attended a very good public school.
The population was predominantly Catholic, so we had religion in our schools.

The day we elected Hitler (March 13, 1938), I walked into my schoolroom to find the crucifix replaced by Hitler's picture hanging next to a Nazi flag. Our teacher, a very devout woman, stood up and told the class we wouldn't pray or have religion anymore.   Instead, we sang "Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles," and had physical education.

Sunday became National Youth Day with compulsory attendance.
Parents were not pleased about the sudden change in curriculum.   They were told that if they did not send us, they would receive a stiff letter of warning the first time.   The second time they would be fined the equivalent of $300, and the third time they would be subject to jail.

The first two hours consisted of political indoctrination.   The rest of the day we had sports. As time went along, we loved it.   Oh, we had so much fun and got our sports equipment free. We would go home and gleefully tell our parents about the wonderful time we had.
My mother was very unhappy.

When the next term started, she took me out of public school and put me in a convent.   I told her she couldn't do that, and she told me that someday when I grew up, I would be grateful. There was a very good curriculum, but hardly any fun - no sports, and no political indoctrination.

I hated it at first but felt I could tolerate it.   Every once in a while, on holidays, I went home.   I would go back to my old friends and ask what was going on and what they were doing. Their loose lifestyle was very alarming to me.   They lived without religion.   By that time unwed mothers were glorified for having a baby for Hitler.   It seemed strange to me that our society changed so suddenly. As time went along, I realized what a great deed my mother did so that I wasn't exposed to that kind of humanistic philosophy.

Equal Rights Hits Home:
In 1939, the war started and a food bank was established.
All food was rationed and could only be purchased using food stamps.
At the same time, a full-employment law was passed which meant if you didn't work, you didn't get a ration card, and if you didn't have a card, you starved to death. Women who stayed home to raise their families didn't have any marketable skills and often had to take jobs more suited for men.

Soon after this, the draft was implemented.
It was compulsory for young people, male and female, to give one year to the labor corps. During the day, the girls worked on the farms, and at night they returned to their barracks for military training just like the boys.   They were trained to be anti-aircraft gunners and participated in the signal corps.   After the labor corps, they were not discharged but were used in the front lines.

When I go back to Austria to visit my family and friends, most of these women are emotional cripples because they just were not equipped to handle the horrors of combat.   Three months before I turned 18, I was severely injured in an air raid attack.   I nearly had a leg amputated, so I was spared having to go into the labor corps and into military service.

Hitler Restructured the Family Through Daycare:
When the mothers had to go out into the work force, the government immediately established child care centers.   You could take your children ages 4 weeks to school age and leave them there around-the-clock, 7 days a week, under the total care of the government.
The state raised a whole generation of children.   There were no motherly women to take care of the children, just people highly trained in child psychology.   By this time, no one talked about equal rights. We knew we had been had.

Health Care and Small Business Suffer Under Government Controls:
Before Hitler, we had very good medical care.
Many American doctors trained at the University of Vienna.
After Hitler, health care was socialized, free for everyone.
Doctors were salaried by the government.   The problem was, since it was free, the people were going to the doctors for everything.   When the good doctor arrived at his office at 8 a.m., 40 people were already waiting and, at the same time, the hospitals were full. If you needed elective surgery, you had to wait a year or two for your turn. There was no money for research as it was poured into socialized medicine.   Research at the medical schools literally stopped, so the best doctors left Austria and emigrated to other countries.
As for healthcare, our tax rates went up to 80% of our income.

Newlyweds immediately received a $1,000 loan from the government to establish a household.   We had big programs for families.   All day care and education were free.    High schools were taken over by the government and college tuition was subsidized. Everyone was entitled to free handouts, such as food stamps, clothing, and housing.

We had another agency designed to monitor business.

My brother-in-law owned a restaurant that had square tables.
Government officials told him he had to replace them with round tables because people might bump themselves on the corners. Then they said he had to have additional bathroom facilities. It was just a small dairy business with a snack bar. He couldn't meet all the demands.   Soon, he went out of business.
If the government owned the large businesses and not many small ones existed, it could be in control.

We had consumer protection.
We were told how to shop and what to buy.
Free enterprise was essentially abolished.

We had a planning agency specially designed for farmers.   The agents would go to the farms, count the live-stock, then tell the farmers what to produce, and how to produce it.

"Mercy Killing" Redefined:
In 1944, I was a student teacher in a small village in the Alps.
The villages were surrounded by mountain passes which, in the winter, were closed off with snow, causing people to be isolated.   So people intermarried and offspring were sometimes retarded.

When I arrived, I was told there were 15 mentally retarded adults, but they were all useful and did good manual work.   I knew one, named Vincent, very well. He was a janitor of the school.

One day I looked out the window and saw Vincent and others getting into a van. I asked my superior where they were going.   She said to an institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade, and to read and write. The families were required to sign papers with a little clause that they could not visit for 6 months.   They were told visits would interfere with the program and might cause homesickness.

As time passed, letters started to dribble back saying these people died a natural, merciful death. The villagers were not fooled.   We suspected what was happening.   Those people left in excellent physical health and all died within 6 months.   We called this euthanasia.

The Final Steps - Gun Laws:
Next came gun registration... People were getting injured by guns.
Hitler said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by matching serial numbers on guns. Most citizens were law abiding and dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms. Not long after-wards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in their guns. The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not to comply voluntarily.

No more freedom of speech.
Anyone who said something against the government was taken away.   We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but also priests and ministers who spoke up.

Totalitarianism didn't come quickly, it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943, to realize full dictatorship in Austria... Had it happened overnight, my countrymen would have fought to the last breath.   Instead, we had creeping gradualism.   Now, our only weapons were broom handles.   The whole idea sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our freedom.

After World War II, Russian troops occupied Austria.
Women were raped, preteen to elderly.
The press never wrote about this either.
When the Soviets left in 1955, they took everything that they could, dismantling whole factories in the process.   They sawed down whole orchards of fruit, and what they couldn't destroy, they burned.   We called it The Burned Earth.

Most of the population barricaded themselves in their houses.
Women hid in their cellars for 6 weeks as the troops mobilized.
Those who couldn't, paid the price. There is a monument in Vienna today, dedicated to those women who were massacred by the Russians.

This is an eyewitness account.
It's true...those of us who sailed past the Statue of Liberty came to a country of unbelievable freedom and opportunity.
America Truly is the Greatest Country in the World.

WE BELIEVE that the courts should follow the United States Constitution so that black people will receive fair trials. The 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution gives a man a right to be tried by his peer group. A peer is a person from a similar economic, social, religious, geographical, environmental, historical and racial background. To do this the court will be forced to select a jury from the black community from which the black defendant came. We have been, and are being tried by all-white juries that have no understanding of the “average reasoning man” of the black community.

10. WE WANT land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace. And as our major political objective, a United Nations supervised plebiscite to be held throughout the black colony in which only black colonial subjects will be allowed to participate, for the purpose of determining the will of black people as to their national destiny.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry appears to be making no apologies for a comment on the 2012 campaign trail in which he suggested Texans might want to rough up Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke if he tries to tackle the economic slump by printing more money.

"The governor was expressing his frustration with the current economic situation and the out of control spending that persists in Washington," Perry campaign spokesman Mark Miner told Fox News on Tuesday. "Most Americans would agree that spending more money is not the answer to the economic issues facing the country."

The low-key delivery of the remark, captured on camera Monday, the same day Perry filed his candidacy papers, earned laughs from the audience in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

"If this guy prints more money between now and the election, I don't know what y'all would do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas," Perry said. "I mean, printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost ... treasonous in my opinion."

But the video quickly made its way around the blogosphere and drew swift criticism, including from corners of expected support. Tony Fratto, former spokesman for President George W. Bush, said on his Twitter account that the comments were "inappropriate and unpresidential."

Ex-Bush adviser and Fox News analyst Karl Rove echoed the complaint, calling Perry's remarks "very unfortunate."

The reaction is just a taste of the scrutiny Perry is going to face and demonstrates the perils of being in the public eye 24-7. As the longest-serving governor in the country, Perry has a record to run on. But he also has a record to be picked apart.

To defend it, Perry will need to summon the folksy eloquence that got him this far. But outside of Texas, his speech-ifying could be a double-edged sword. Though an instant frontrunner in the Republican presidential primary, Perry faces the challenge of sounding more than a bit like George W. Bush, the other Texas governor who ran -- successfully -- for president, but left office with low approval ratings.

Perry told Fox News on Monday that he's no carbon copy of Bush. "I tell people, I say, one of the quickest ways you can tell the difference is, you know, he's a Yale graduate, I'm a Texas A&M graduate."

Even Rove acknowledged that Perry has to "fight the impression that he's a cowboy from Texas." But the Bush confidante urged Perry to distinguish himself from Bush more respectfully. Rove, claiming Bush moved "heaven and earth" to help elect Perry as his lieutenant governor in Texas, said "it sounds like" Perry's being ungrateful. Rove said, this time, he chalks it up to Perry being on the national stage for the first time.

"No matter how big politics is in Texas, it's much bigger and much more different on a national stage," Rove said.

Perry's big Texas record is getting a thorough combing-over by the media and political critics, about everything from his mandate requiring young girls to get HPV vaccines to his presiding over the largest number of executions under any governor. One particular case that could cause problems for the governor is that of Cameron Todd Willingham, a Texas man convicted of killing his kids by arson and executed in 2004 despite claims that the science used in his case may have been flawed.

Already, Perry was questioned Monday about his post as Al Gore's Texas campaign chairman during Gore's unsuccessful 1988 bid for president. Perry claimed these were the days before Gore was "Mr. Global Warming." Politico.com noted that Gore was talking about global warming before his 1988 bid but his backers say that Perry and Gore obviously didn't agree on everything.

Ex-White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs also tweaked Perry in an interview on MSNBC Tuesday morning when Gibbs questioned how the governor who famously suggested a Texas secession from the U.S. is now seeking to lead the entire nation.

"Just two years ago, the governor of Texas openly talked about leading Texas out of the United States of America -- and now this campaign has caused him to profess his love for the United States. I think it's a remarkable turnaround," Gibbs said.

Perry will have to defend his claim that he is a jobs governor, presiding over a state that created 40 percent of new jobs in America since June 2009. He attributes the growth to low taxes and fewer regulations, but opponents argue the windfall can be traced in part to the state's oil and gas sector -- helped along by rising oil prices that Perry could not control.

The state unemployment level is at 8.2 percent, high, but below the national average and attributable in part to an upswing in the state's population due to relocations from other parts of the country attracted to a growing economy.

But Perry's true baptism into the race may have come when ex-President Bill Clinton gave him some ribbing from afar, at an event in New York. Clinton touched on Perry's budding candidacy, calling the governor a "good-looking rascal" and saying he's "tickled" by his campaign announcement.

"He said, you know I'm going to Washington to make sure that the federal government stays as far away from you as possible -- while I ride on Air Force One and that Marine One helicopter and go to Camp David and travel around the world and have a good time. I mean, this is crazy," Clinton said.

It's a takeoff on where are all of the students Obama taught who claim to have been inspired by him when he taught law at the University of Chicago. Where are all of the former classmates of Obama who can tell wonderful stories about their experience with Obama on campus or in the classroom?"

Limbaugh continued, "They are interesting because those people haven't surfaced. There aren't any ex-girlfriends that have admitted it. Students that have been inspired by Obama as a professor, they haven't come forth.

"Media hasn't dug 'em up. It is interesting from the standpoint that the guy has not been vetted yet. Look what they're trying to do to Michele Bachmann, what they're planning on doing to Perry and so forth."

He concluded, "I'm just saying it's very strange that we know so little about a guy who's written two autobiographies. It really is strange."

My finances are in shambles; mainstream newspapers won't publish my pieces; and, no matter how much I try to convince Fox News that they need male eye candy as well, they just won't give me a show. Then I gaze into the mirror at my alabaster complexion and say, "What's wrong with this picture? I'll have to address this at the next White People's Meeting."

Of course, it isn't really true that all we Caucasians get together in a big conference hall somewhere and, rubbing our hands together with devilish glee, conspire as to how we're gonna get ourselves some'a that there white privilege. Yet you wouldn't know it listening to egghead academics, media mouths, and uncivil rights agitators.

Put "white privilege" into a search engine and no small number of results will be for ".edu" URLs, which means that our mental institutions of higher learning are busy teaching "critical race theory" and ideas such as "Whites are taught not to recognize white privilege" and that, as this University of Dayton site informs, white persons have a "special freedom or immunity from some [liabilities or burdens] to which non-white persons are subject."

There is also something called "The White Privilege Conference" and a website devoted to it (I actually had to log on to make sure it wasn't a spoof site, but truth is stranger -- and stupider -- than fiction). And American Thinker recently wrote about an event called "Erasing White Privilege," during which whites sat around in a room confessing their collective oppressor sins while "people of color" discharged rage, "yelling at them" and "preaching." Ain't Obama's post-racial America grand?

Of course, I don't imagine there are many plumbers, supermarket workers, or forklift operators at such meetings -- and not just because they actually have to work. It's also because they know something:

White privilege is a myth.

Let's look at the facts. Because of the fashionable discrimination known as affirmative action, whites (males especially) are often untouchables in the job market. And examples are legion. Talk-show host Michael Savage has often mentioned that after he earned his Ph.D., he had trouble finding a job in his chosen field and was told in so many words that "white men need not apply." I could also mention a junior-high-school friend of mine whose test score was too low to qualify for the specialty high school I attended and the black student who gained admission with the exact same score.

Or read this essay by Professor Louis Pojman, who cites the case of a brilliant Ph.D. philosopher who was denied a tenure-track position because the university in question had to hire a "woman or a Black." Then there is the Dayton, OH police department, which recently discarded its recruit exam and the scores of 748 people who passed it because not doing so would have resulted in too many whites being hired.

And there is social discrimination as well. While black comedians can use derogatory terms for whites such as "cracker," white comedians who use corresponding anti-black racial epithets risk career destruction. A racial slur isn't even necessary for a white person to incur the thought police's wrath. Sportscaster Jimmy "the Greek" Snyder lost his job in the 1980s for, while tipsy at a restaurant, offering an unsophisticatedly stated opinion as to why blacks are great athletes.

Even more ridiculous, Washington, DC mayoral staffer David Howard was pilloried and had to resign his position (he was later rehired) for using the word "niggardly," which is of Scandinavian origin and means "cheap," during a staff meeting. Golf commentator Kelly Tilghman was suspended for two weeks for innocently using the term "lynch" when describing what young players might have to do to beat Tiger Woods. And university student Keith John Sampson was charged with "racial harassment" for reading a book about the Ku Klux Klan in the presence of black colleagues. It didn't matter that it was an anti-KKK book.

There is also a trove of government programs designed to aid minorities -- such as those geared toward minority-owned businesses -- but no corresponding help for whites. And, as whistleblowers recently revealed, our Department of Justice has long been ignoring voting-rights cases when the victims have been white.

This is where the white-privilege propagandists may say, "But, wait, whites are wealthier than other racial groups and occupy most positions of power and prestige. Why do you think that is?!" This is the same reasoning leftists use when claiming that the large number of blacks in prison proves discrimination in the criminal/justice system. But let's see how valid this circumstantial argument really is.

The median income of Jewish Americans is approximately twice that of their non-Jewish countrymen. Additionally, while only about 40 percent of high-school graduates attend college, the rate among Jews is 85 percent. Jews also occupy positions of power at a rate greatly in excess of their two percent of the population. Yet should we speak of "Jewish privilege"? It would be more instructive to note a secret of Jewish people's success: They place great emphasis on education and workplace achievement.

And what about blacks' dominance in mainstream sports? Wouldn't it be ridiculous to talk about "black athletic privilege"?

Group-specific success isn't just an American phenomenon, either.
As Professor Walter Williams wrote:[D]uring the 1960s, the Chinese minority in Malaysia received more university degrees than the Malay majority - including 400 engineering degrees compared with four for the Malays, even though Malays dominate the country politically. In Brazil's state of Sao Paulo, more than two-thirds of the potatoes and 90 percent of the tomatoes produced were produced by people of Japanese ancestry.

So while we could prattle on about Chinese privilege in Malaysia or those privileged Japanese boys from Brazil, it would be wiser to accept a simple truth: There is simply no evidence that all groups can succeed equally in every endeavor.

And this brings us to the real prejudice at work here. Whether it's Jewish Nobel Prize-winners, blacks in the athletic arena, or something else, we generally give credit where it is due.

Except when the relatively successful group is white people.

Then they are guilty -- of discrimination, oppression, and victimization -- and will never be proven innocent. Their success just must have come at the expense of others, no matter what the facts say.

As for oppression, what is the endgame here? Many foreign nations have enacted hate-speech laws predicated on the idea that expressing negative sentiments, true or not, about a group can ultimately lead to its persecution. Well, another privilege whites don't have is a dispensation from the laws of man's nature. And when they are constantly and unfairly maligned as deserving not their successes but only contempt for being the source of the world's woes, it's not hard to figure out what the consequence will be.

And once again, when the snotty elites thought they'd caught her in another gaffe regarding her claim that Paul Revere not only warned the colonials on his famous ride but likewise warned the British of the mobilization of the Minutemen, attempting to convince them not to oppose the colonials' actions, Sarah had it right according to historians; it's her gleeful, liberal detractors who now have egg smeared ear to ear.

Nothing so delights the masses as seeing an underdog take a hearty bite out of the butt of the know-it-all media nobility as Sarah so capably does; it's on a par with seeing a protected darling of that same privileged class take it in the shorts as has that prince of pomposity, the smug, sneering Anthony Weiner. Well now... We have a revoltin' developement with The Charlatan's Birth Certificate!!!
It seems that a few dedicated researchers have come up with information that casts a shadow on the BC copy that The White House revealed yesterday.

For starters, in the space on the BC that defines the father's birth place is the words KENYA, EAST AFRICA. Well, I'm told by many sources that in 1961, the year that Obama was born, Kenya did not exist as an entity. Back then it was called "The British East Africa Protectorate". For an 'official document' to err about the father's birth place seems odd doncha think? The Republic of Kenya was formed in 1964 and then joined the British Empire.

Then, there is some descrpancy about the hospital in Hawaii. It seems that the hospital's name was different in 1961 than it is today.

And finally, some clever folks have discovered that the BC has been 'assembled' rather than copied. They determined that the document has been composed of several layers.

The White House has released President Obama's long-form birth certificate, saying the document is "proof positive" the president was born in Hawaii.

The release marked an unexpected turn in the long-simmering, though widely discredited, controversy over Obama's origin. Obama's advisers have for the better part of three years dismissed questions about the president's birth, directing skeptics to the short-term document released during the 2008 campaign. But as the issue gained more attention at the state level and particularly in the 2012 presidential race, Obama said Wednesday that it was starting to distract attention from pressing challenges like the budget.

The president, who discussed the release at the White House without taking questions, said he had been "puzzled" by the enduring shelf life of the issue and acknowledged the announcement may not put the so-called birther controversy to rest. But he told the public and the media that it's time to "get serious."
"We do not have time for this kind of silliness," Obama said. "We've got better stuff to do. I've got better stuff to do. We've got big problems to solve."

He said the country will not solve those problems if people are "distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers."

While Republicans wanted to cut more spending in Saturday's early morning compromise to keep the government open, they think they got the better of the deal.

Here's why:
HR1 was originally to seek spending cuts of $32 billion until Tea Party conservatives insisted on more than $ 60 billion.
House Speaker John Boehner won more cuts than he originally sought and got the Senate to agree to votes to defund the health care reform law and groups like the nation's largest abortion provider Planned Parenthood - once votes Senate Majority leader Harry Reid said he'd never allow to come to the floor.
Back on February 3, Reid called $32 billion in cuts "extreme" and "draconian."

At a news conference New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., agreed, "I happen to think some of their cuts are extreme and go overboard. But every week they keep upping the ante and proposing extreme cuts."

Over the next decade the cuts are expected to save hundreds of billions of dollars.

The deal mandates a host of studies and audits of Obama administration policies. It also blocks additional funds for the IRS sought by the Obama administration and bans federal funding of abortion in Washington, D.C.

The history of offers on this bill goes something like this.
Democrats first offered no cuts, then $4 billion, then $6.5 billion, then $33 billion, then settled at $38.5 billion.

Boehner made numerous adjustments to his offer in recent days too, but started at $32 billion, then with a Tea Party push went to $62 billion, then dropped to $40 billion, then $38.5 billion.

Democrats claimed they met Republicans halfway after the $10 billion in cuts that already passed this year were approved.
They settled late Friday night at three and a half times more.

Boehner came in $8.5 billion higher than the halfway point between his high offer of $61 billion in cuts and the Democrats opening bid of zero cuts.

It was not a totally lopsided bargain. Dems have some silver linings.
There were no votes on defunding the EPA or PBS and NPR.
Democrats fought for and won a $2 billion cut from the Department of Defense, knocking the military appropriation for the rest of the year down to $513 billion.

But the GOP had to be able to see this as a win in the end, because it is puny compared to what they want to do next.

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's 2012 budget resolution proposes cuts of $5 TRILLION in the next 10 yrs.

But the resolution is a non-binding roadmap for the committees to use as they approve tax and spending bills for next year, the resolution will never be signed into law by the president.

The next battle with consequences begins in a matter of two short weeks, when the accumulated U.S. debt will be nearing it's $14 trillion legal limit.
So Congress will have to vote to raise the ceiling so Uncle Sam can borrow still more money.

The administration has said it will need to be raised between April 15 and May 31 or the U.S. could default and create a new fiscal crisis of unknowable magnitude.
Fiscal hawks plan to demand strict, enforceable spending caps, triggers for across the board cuts, and austerity measures in exchange for raising the debt limit.

This short-term agreement was just a beginning.

At 12-years-old, Jacob Barnett is a genius. He’s already in college, his IQ is higher than Einstein’s, and for fun he‘s working on an expanded version of that man’s theory of relativity. So far, the signs are good. Professors are astounded.
So what else does a boy genius with vast brilliance do in his free time? Disprove the big bang, of course.

For a minute, just a minute, try and follow his logic.
“There are two different types of when stars end. When the little stars die, it’s just like a small poof. They just turn into a planetary nebula. But the big ones, above 1.4 solar masses, blow up in one giant explosion, a supernova,” Jake said. “What it does, is, in larger stars there is a larger mass, and it can fuse higher elements because it’s more dense.”

“So you get all the elements, all the different materials, from those bigger stars. The little stars, they just make hydrogen and helium, and when they blow up, all the carbon that remains in them is just in the white dwarf; it never really comes off.

“So, um, in the big-bang theory, what they do is, there is this big explosion and there is all this temperature going off and the temperature decreases really rapidly because it’s really big. The other day I calculated, they have this period where they suppose the hydrogen and helium were created, and, um, I don’t care about the hydrogen and helium, but I thought, wouldn’t there have to be some sort of carbon?”
He could go on and on.

And he did.

“Otherwise, the carbon would have to be coming out of the stars and hence the Earth, made mostly of carbon, we wouldn’t be here. So I calculated, the time it would take to create 2 percent of the carbon in the universe, it would actually have to be several micro-seconds. Or a couple of nano-seconds, or something like that. An extremely small period of time. Like faster than a snap. That isn’t gonna happen.”

“Because of that,” he continued, “that means that the world would have never been created because none of the carbon would have been given 7 billion years to fuse together. We’d have to be 21 billion years old . . . and that would just screw everything up.”

Young Jacob‘s journey to genius hasn’t been a fairy tale. He didn’t speak until he was two, and he’s been diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome, a mild form of autism. His mother, Kristine, told the Star he has trouble sleeping because he constantly sees numbers in his head.

“A lot keeps me awake,” Jake said. “I scare people.”

But he also has so much promise, and that excites many more.

“In one two-week period, he sat on our front porch and learned all of his high school math,” Kristine told the Star. “He tested out of algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trigonometry and calculus.”

At eight, Jacob enrolled at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and was taking advanced astrophysics classes. According to one of his professors there, he‘s the most brilliant student he’s seen.

“Is he a genius? Well, yeah,” IUPUI physics Professor John Ross told the paper. “Kids his age would normally have problems adding fractions, and he is helping out some of his fellow students.”
He could soon be helping out the university, too. “We have told him that after this semester . . . enough of the book work. You are here to do some science,” - Ross, who’s committed to helping Jacob find some grant funding, said.amazing stuff down the road.”

“If we can get all of those creative juices in a certain direction, we might be able to see some really amazing stuff down the road.”
And if the here-and-now is any indication, “down the road” will be mind boggling. See, Jacob has already begun working on an expanded theory of relativity — and he’s on to something.

“I’m impressed by his interest in physics and the amount that he has learned so far,” Prof. Scott Tremaine, one of the world’s leading scientists, wrote in an email to the family. “The theory that he’s working on involves several of the toughest problems in astrophysics and theoretical physics.”
He added: “Anyone who solves these will be in line for a Nobel Prize.”

Gas prices continue to go up. When George W. Bush was President of the United States, Democrats constantly demanded he open the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help lower prices. Some even wanted a temporary suspension of the gas tax.
With Obama?
Crickets.

Why the hypocrisy? It is very simple to understand.

The left knew that George W. Bush was not a fan of their green agenda. The green agenda consists of coal powered cars, urban living, and punitive measures to stop that mythical force known as global warming . . . or climate change depending on what day it is.
Barack Obama buys the agenda hook, line, and sinker.

The left could use gas prices as a political wedge issue against George W. Bush because they knew he did not actually want higher gas prices. Barack Obama, on the other hand, wants higher gas prices.

His Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, wants the same. Chu is on record saying, “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.” Therefore, gas prices will go up and the left will silently cheer the economic disaster befalling us.

There are two reasons gas prices must go up. The first is to get people into coal powered cars. Coal powered cars can only be driven around 40 miles before they must be plugged back into the grid for more coal power. If everyone moves to coal powered cars, the drivers will be forced to live closer to cities.

Living closer to cities will increase urban density and decrease the supposedly anti-environmental impact of strip mall exurban utopias. In the liberal reorganization of society, only farmers should live in rural areas.

Once urban density is increased to European levels, then Barack Obama and the left can finally make a viable case for high-speed rail. There are, after all, two things high-speed rail supporters admit they need for viability: (1) high urban density and (2) high gas prices. Hmmm . . .

See, it is not a conspiracy on Barack Obama’s part. There is no secret. This President and those he surrounds himself with actively want high gas prices. They either do not care or are oblivious to the fact that high gas prices will wreak further havoc on the economy.

They look at Europe with its high gas prices and high-speed trains and they see nirvana. They willfully ignore the high rate of unemployment among the young, bankrupted social welfare programs, and growing immigrant slums.

These people are not fools. They want a world where we all live in big cities and use the sun and wind to run our lives — a return to the 14th century with 21st century hygiene. To get that to happen, gas prices must go up.

Barack Obama does not care about what is happening in the Middle East. He does not care about the cost to you to fill up your car with gas. Because the more you pay through Mid-East turmoil and inaccessible American oil deposits, the sooner his future of coal powered cars and high-speed trains can arrive.

This is an Obama created crisis he wants to make sure does not get wasted. That you and I are forced to relive the golden age known as the Carter Administration is not his concern.

President Obama’s timid foreign policy is an embarrassment for a global superpower.

Nile Gardner is a Washington-based foreign affairs analyst and political commentator. He appears frequently on American and British television and radio, including Fox News Channel, CNN, BBC, Sky News, and NPR.

The débacle of Washington’s handling of the Libya issue is symbolic of a wider problem at the heart of the Obama administration’s foreign policy. The fact that it took ten days and at least a thousand dead on the streets of Libya’s cities before President Obama finally mustered the courage to call for Muammar “mad dog” Gaddafi to step down is highly embarrassing for the world’s only superpower, and emblematic of a deer-in-the-headlights approach to world leadership.

Washington seems incapable of decisive decision-making on foreign policy at the moment, a far cry from the days when it swept entire regimes from power, and defeated America’s enemies with deep-seated conviction and an unshakeable drive for victory.

Just a few years ago the United States was genuinely feared on the world stage, and dictatorial regimes, strategic adversaries and state sponsors of terror trod carefully in the face of the world’s most powerful nation. Now Washington appears weak, rudderless and frequently confused in its approach.

From Tehran to Tripoli, the Obama administration has been pathetically slow to lead, and afraid to condemn acts of state-sponsored repression and violence. When protesters took to the streets to demonstrate against the Islamist dictatorship in Iran in 2009, the brutal repression that greeted them was hardly a blip on Barack Obama’s teleprompter screen, barely meriting a response from a largely silent presidency.

In contrast to Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, President Obama fails to see the United States as an exceptional nation, with a unique role in leading the free world and standing up to tyranny. In his speeches abroad he has frequently found fault with his own country, rather than projecting confidence in American greatness.

From Cairo to Strasbourg he has adopted an apologetic tone rather than demonstrating faith in America as a shining city upon a hill, a beacon of freedom and liberty. A leader who lacks pride in his own nation’s historic role as a great liberator simply cannot project strength abroad.

It has also become abundantly clear that the Obama team attaches little importance to human rights issues, and in contrast to the previous administration has not pursued a freedom agenda in the Middle East and elsewhere. It places far greater value upon engagement with hostile regimes, even if they are carrying out gross human rights abuses, in the mistaken belief that appeasement enhances security.

This has been the case with Iran, Russia and North Korea for example. This administration has also been all too willing to sacrifice US leadership in deference to supranational institutions such as the United Nations, whose track record in standing up to dictatorships has been virtually non-existent.

The White House’s painful navel-gazing on Libya last week, with even the French adopting a far tougher stance, is cause for grave concern.

The Obama administration’s timid approach to foreign policy is the last thing the world needs at a time of mounting turmoil in the Middle East, including the growing threat of a nuclear-armed Iran, and Islamist militancy on the rise from Egypt to Yemen.

US leadership is now needed more than ever, but has embarrassingly gone AWOL on the world stage.

In the Midst of the Egyptian Upheaval: The Elephants in the Room

As the Middle East is engulfed in a series of often violent pro-democracy demonstrations and counter-demonstrations that have shattered the myth of stability in that region, there are a number of other myths which have been shattered as well -- about which no one has said a word.

These myths are the elephants in the room, and try as hard as some would to turn a blind eye to them, they are now more self-evident than ever. Borrowing from the Letterman Show, here is my own Top Five List, together with a few conclusions.

1. Israel is an apartheid state - Muslim Arabs are demonstrating all across the Middle East to rid themselves of autocratic dictatorships and replace them with true representative democracies. From Algeria to Tunisia, from Egypt to Jordan, from Yemen to the Sudan, and seemingly all points in between, the cause is the same. People want to live in freedom. They want to have their human rights respected. They want democracy. There is seemingly only one place where Muslim Arabs have not taken to the streets against such regimes and in support of such ideals. That place is Israel (even though 20% of Israel's population is Arab). The lack of demonstrations stems from a simple fact: Israeli Arabs already live in a democracy. The rights they enjoy there make them the envy of the Middle East. They live in a nation of laws with one of the most vibrant democracies in the world, complete with a notoriously loud and free press, an independent judiciary, fair and free elections, and a military which is subordinate to the democratically elected civilian government. Simply put, what hundreds of millions of Muslim Arabs are clamoring for throughout the Middle East is what Israeli Arabs already have.

2. Israel's policies toward the Palestinians are the root cause of unrest and instability in the region - The crowds demonstrating in Tunisia and Tahrir Square, in Amman, in the Sudan, and in Yemen, and indeed those protests scheduled to take place in both the Palestinian Authority and Hamas-run Gaza, have nothing to do with Israel. These demonstrations are aimed at the corruption of those governments, including those Palestinian entities which rule over the Palestinians themselves.

3. In the Middle East, Israel has become Goliath, threatening an impoverished and downtrodden Palestinian David - One of the edifying effects of this crisis has been the number of maps of the Middle East which have been shown on the nightly news programs. In those maps, one sees a veritable Islamic sea stretching from the Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf. Hundreds upon hundreds of millions of Muslims in scores of countries, and in their midst there is one tiny dot, so small that its name will not even fit within its borders on the map. That is is why you see "Israel" posted in the Mediterranean alongside the tiny sliver of land which is the Jewish State. The very elements the West fears most as the possible replacement governments for the dictatorships on the brink of collapse, are those that would ally themselves with the most radical elements in the Palestinian camp. Who is David? Who is Goliath? Who's kidding whom?

4. The West has a number of strategic allies and partners in the Middle East and can't sacrifice their strategic interests with those partners because of an intransigent Israel - Looking at those same maps, it must now be abundantly clear that the West has only one reliable ally in the Middle East: Israel.

5. Egypt and Jordan made peace with Israel and have gotten nothing to show for it - This is perhaps one of the most tragic myths. Though both of those governments have signed treaties with Israel that ended active hostilities, neither of those governments has taken the steps necessary to educate its people for peaceful coexistence with Israel. Indeed, the Egyptian government has fomented some of the most virulent anti-Semitism imaginable, and literally hundreds of projects between Israel and its neighbors which could have provided tens of thousands of jobs and a new era of prosperity have been shelved in order to cultivate the image of an Israeli boogeyman in order to deflect the shortcomings of those very governments. The tragic truth is that the key to prosperity for both Egypt and Jordan is a warm peace with Israel, full of cooperative regional ventures that could provide the life and livelihood for their citizens which are now being clamored for in the streets of Cairo and Amman.

So what are the conclusions one is to draw from the past month's events?

1. A peace agreement without educating the population toward peace and coexistence is only a piece of paper.

2. In a region without true democracy, there is no true stability. For Israel to survive in the neighborhood in which it lives, there have to be concrete security arrangements that can stand the test of time -- because the peace treaty you sign with one regime today may be ground to dust by the one that takes its place tomorrow.

3. Consider all the arms that the United States has given to Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority, and Saudi Arabia. If the demonstrations now boiling over throughout the Middle East topple those governments, or if those governments ally themselves with expansionist Islamist aims, all those weapons can be turned not only against Israel, but against the U.S. -- and her vital interests, as well. For that reason, Israel must maintain a qualitative edge in weaponry. That is not only a vital Israeli interest, but it is also a vital American interest.

4. Don't blame Israel if she thinks that she can't depend upon anyone but herself. That is the inescapable conclusion to be drawn from the unseemly speed with which the United States has shown herself capable of throwing an erstwhile ally under the bus to accommodate "the Arab street."

5. The policy of appeasement, accommodation, and engagement has utterly and completely failed. The U.S. has sought to engage with Iran while tolerating dictatorships with which the U.S. thought she could do business. That policy has sent a message of weakness on the one hand and venality on the other. The U.S. must stand up for her own values with everyone. Of no less importance, however, is the fact that the U.S. can no longer afford to turn a blind eye to policies and incitements that would start with the destruction of Israel but end with the destruction of the West. Those policies, to paraphrase Churchill, have been the equivalent of the vain hopes of being the last in the room to be eaten by the tiger.

State Eligibility Law: Obama's Achilles' Heel in 2012?

In his recent AT piece, Paul Kengor looks at Obama's aggregate poll numbers and concludes that the president may cruise to reelection in 2012. And Kengor didn't even factor in the additional votes Obama may secure with our tax dollars via entitlements, subsidies, and his ever-increasing army of government workers. Neither did he factor in the effects of widespread voter registration fraud complements of ACORN-type front groups.

On the other hand, it does appear that much of Middle America has awakened to the consequences of electing Obama in 2008. The Tea Party movement is not going away; in fact, it is getting stronger. And based on the amount of fiscal damage the Democrats have already wrought, it doesn't appear that the economy will be lifting Obama at election time.

There is something else that might provide a little optimism: the eligibility laws of the states. Presently, at least ten states are working on election law eligibility requirements for candidates who wish to be placed on their respective 2012 ballots for the presidency.

Two objectives may be obtained via election law requirements. The first is to compel the United States Supreme Court to define one aspect of presidential eligibility. The second is to force Mr. Obama to release his hospital-generated birth certificate.

Getting a definition of "natural born Citizen" -

The Constitution requires "natural born Citizen" status as a requisite for the U.S. presidency. But no one can say authoritatively what the phrase means. The Supreme Court has had no on-point litigation from which to provide a definition. Additionally, in 2008, neither Congress nor the states had any legislation in place defining the phrase.

The historic view of the phrase "natural born Citizen" -- going back to Emmerich de Vattel's "Law of Nations" -- requires a birth in the country and (in our context) U.S. citizen parents at the time of the candidate's birth. Another view is that only U.S. citizen parents are required in order to qualify. And, of course, some believe that the constitutional language is merely referring to a birth in the U.S., irrespective of parental citizenship.

Defending Obama's birthplace narrative and secrecy has become a pop-media standby. But the requirement of citizen parents for eligibility has traditionally been the preeminent question when considering whether one is a "natural born Citizen." Avoiding conflicting interests, influences, loyalties, or allegiances is the undisputed reason for the requirement. A son of a foreign national taking the reins of the U.S. presidency is presumably what the founders wished to prevent.

State legislators should define the phrase "natural born Citizen" in their election eligibility codes, requiring U.S. citizen parents at the time of the candidate's birth as a requisite to being placed on the presidential ballot. With such a law in place, you can rest assured that the issue would make its way to the Supreme Court -- on a fast track.

It's likely, but no one knows for sure whether the Court will agree that a presidential candidate must have been born to citizen parents to qualify as a "natural born Citizen." Either way, a ruling on the issue and a definition of the phrase are what the country needs.

Forcing Obama into transparency-

The other objective that may be achieved via election law requirements would be the release of Obama's hospital-generated birth certificate.

Mr. Obama knows how much money he has spent defending lawsuits to avoid releasing his detailed birth certificate showing his hospital and physician of record. The dollar amount spent to avoid transparency must be staggering.

Recently, Hawaii governor and staunch supporter of Obama Neil Abercrombie announced that he would end the controversy by verifying the existence of Obama's birth certificate. The only problem was that Abercrombie discovered that a detailed birth certificate couldn't be found in the Hawaii vital records.

Regardless of whether the details of the president's birth can be documented, Mr. Obama has a problem. If a detailed birth certificate does exist, it reasonably may be inferred to contain candidacy-ending information. Who believes that Obama would stubbornly refuse to release his records if they contained harmless information?

Mr. Obama has been able to legally avoid releasing information because no eligibility law defining "natural born Citizen" and requiring specific proof was in effect at the time of his election. The states effectively waived their constitutional rights in 2008. But apparently, that mistake will not be repeated.

Additional thoughts for legislators -

The key for state legislators drafting eligibility law for 2012 is specificity. Merely requiring that each candidate submit his/her "birth certificate," or that candidates "prove constitutional eligibility," as many drafts read, is not enough.

The document Mr. Obama posted online, his "Certification of Live Birth," has been referred to by some as a "birth certificate." It is therefore possible that Obama's incomplete certification could pass a state's eligibility requirements under generic wording. If the law merely calls for submission of a "birth certificate" to the state secretary, a court could rule that Obama's certification is sufficient. Legislators drafting eligibility law must be sure to require each candidate to produce a hospital-generated birth certificate showing the hospital and physician of record -- or at bare minimum, medical records showing the same. An Obama-type certification should be acceptable only to document non-hospital births.

After recommendation, one state lawmaker, Rep. Leo Berman of Texas, has already informed me that he will take my advice and add some extra language to his eligibility bill for the reasons stated above.

The new eligibility laws of the states could prove to be quite consequential. Therefore, the laws need to be drafted with precision and with focus, for time is of the essence.

If enough carefully written state eligibility law is passed in time, I believe either that Obama will be stopped or that we will find out what he's been hiding. As a bonus, we might also get a ruling on the definition of "natural born Citizen."

Abercrombie Admits There Are No Obama Birth Records In Hawaii

Celebrity Journalist: I Never Spoke to Hawaii Gov About Obama Birth Certificate

A celebrity journalist now claims he misspoke when he said last week that Hawaii’s governor told him he was unable to find President Barack Obama’s original birth certificate after a search of state and hospital archives.

Mike Evans told FoxNews.com on Wednesday he was remorseful and embarrassed that he appeared to have given the impression that he had discussed the search for Obama’s birth certificate with Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie.

Evans, who says he has been a close friend of Abercrombie since the 1980s, appeared on Minnesota’s KQRS radio last week and said he’d been told by the governor himself that Obama’s birth certificate was nowhere to be found. Evans told KQRS on Jan. 20:

"Yesterday, talking to Neil's office, Neil says that he searched everywhere using his powers as governor ..... there is no Barack Obama birth certificate in Hawaii. Absolutely no proof at all that he was born in Hawaii."

But that’s no longer Evans’ story.

“Only this I can you tell you is 100 percent fact: that Neil never told me there was no birth certificate,” Evans told Fox News. “I never talked to him.”

Last week’s radio interview was part of Evans’ syndicated five-minute feature, “On the Road with Mike Evans,” which is broadcast on 34 stations across the country each morning.

On the morning of Jan. 20, Evans says he accidentally told one of those radio stations -- KQRS -- that he’d spoken directly with Gov. Abercrombie about the Obama birth certificate.

“I was on 34 radio stations that morning. That was the only station where I said, instead of saying ‘the hospital said there’s no birth certificate’ I misspoke and said Neil said that,” Evans said. “I misspoke and I apologize for that. I apologize to Neil.”

Abercrombie’s spokeswoman did not respond to Fox News e-mail and phone requests for comment.

Evans says he first noticed the story on Jan. 18, when he was reading an online article with the headline, “Hawaii governor can't find Obama birth certificate.” The article cites an interview with a former Honolulu elections clerk who says records of Obama’s birth could not be found at either Honolulu hospital.

“Halfway down the story it said the long form certificate was not on file at the two hospitals,” Evans said. “It says the hospitals say there’s no birth certificate and says Neil says he couldn’t find it.”

Evans said he continued reading other reports online, including one that quotes a former Honolulu election official as saying no hospital has been able to find Obama’s original long form birth certificate.

Fitness Guru Jack LaLanne Dies at 96

LOS ANGELES -- Jack LaLanne was prodding Americans to get off their couches and into the gym decades before it was cool. And he was still pumping iron and pushing fruits and vegetables decades past most Americans' retirement age.

The fitness fanatic ate well and exercised -- and made it his mission to make sure everyone did the same -- right up to the end at age 96, friends and family said.

LaLanne died Sunday at his home in Morro Bay on California's central coast, longtime agent Rick Hersh said. The cause was respiratory failure due to pneumonia.

"I have not only lost my husband and a great American icon, but the best friend and most loving partner anyone could ever hope for," Elaine LaLanne, LaLanne's wife of 51 years and a frequent partner in his television appearances, said in a written statement.

Lalanne, who had heart valve surgery two years ago, maintained a youthful physique and joked in 2006 that "I can't afford to die. It would wreck my image."

"He was amazing," said 87-year-old former "Price is Right" host Bob Barker, who credited LaLanne's encouragement with helping him to start exercising often.

"He never lost enthusiasm for life and physical fitness," Barker told The Associated Press on Sunday. "I saw him in about 2007 and he still looked remarkably good. He still looked like the same enthusiastic guy that he always was."

LaLanne credited a sudden interest in fitness with transforming his life as a teen, and he worked tirelessly over the next eight decades to transform others' lives, too.

"The only way you can hurt the body is not use it," LaLanne said. "Inactivity is the killer and, remember, it's never too late."

His workout show was a television staple from the 1950s to the '70s. LaLanne and his dog Happy encouraged kids to wake their mothers and drag them in front of the television set. He developed exercises that used no special equipment, just a chair and a towel.

He also founded a chain of fitness studios that bore his name and in recent years touted the value of raw fruit and vegetables as he helped market a machine called Jack LaLanne's Power Juicer.

When he turned 43 in 1957, he performed more than 1,000 push-ups in 23 minutes on the "You Asked For It" television show. At 60, he swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco -- handcuffed, shackled and towing a boat. Ten years later, he performed a similar feat in Long Beach harbor.

"I never think of my age, never," LaLanne said in 1990. "I could be 20 or 100. I never think about it, I'm just me. Look at Bob Hope, George Burns. They're more productive than they've ever been in their whole lives right now."

Fellow bodybuilder and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger credited LaLanne with taking exercise out of the gymnasium and into living rooms.

"He laid the groundwork for others to have exercise programs, and now it has bloomed from that black and white program into a very colorful enterprise," Schwarzenegger said in 1990.

In 1936 in his native Oakland, LaLanne opened a health studio that included weight-training for women and athletes. Those were revolutionary notions at the time, because of the theory that weight training made an athlete slow and "muscle bound" and made a woman look masculine.

"You have to understand that it was absolutely forbidden in those days for athletes to use weights," he once said. "It just wasn't done. We had athletes who used to sneak into the studio to work out.

"It was the same with women. Back then, women weren't supposed to use weights. I guess I was a pioneer," LaLanne said.

The son of poor French immigrants, he was born in 1914 and grew up to become a sugar addict, he said.

The turning point occurred one night when he heard a lecture by pioneering nutritionist Paul Bragg, who advocated the benefits of brown rice, whole wheat and a vegetarian diet.

"He got me so enthused," LaLanne said. "After the lecture I went to his dressing room and spent an hour and a half with him. He said, 'Jack, you're a walking garbage can."'

Soon after, LaLanne constructed a makeshift gym in his back yard. "I had all these firemen and police working out there and I kind of used them as guinea pigs," he said.

He said his own daily routine usually consisted of two hours of weightlifting and an hour in the swimming pool.

"It's a lifestyle, it's something you do the rest of your life," LaLanne said. "How long are you going to keep breathing? How long do you keep eating? You just do it."

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dan and Jon, and a daughter, Yvonne.

They don't care at all...

It's scary! One just doesnt just strike out on their own and say, "LISTEN TO ME! - "I KNOW!"
They MUST be able to back it up! They MUST be able to PERFORM!

Heck, You need a plan, an organization, and certainly a lot of support. Evidently something this fellow sorely needed... And didn't think about, And Did NOT Have...

I've taken some time away from the blog to try defeat some minor illness and re-energize my physche, and... just maybe create a somewhat clearer view of the world.

I really don't know if it has worked... But in due time we certainly will either begin to see a difference or we will not!

But rest assured, irreverance will always be a large part of our répertoire.

An older farmer gave this advice to a younger farmer:

"Ask God to show you what to plant and when to plant.
Then plant the best seed you can buy. Ask God to grow the seeds.
Then cultivate the ground, pull the weeds, and fertilize the plants as they grow.

Ask God to produce a great harvest.
Then go out and gather the harvest when it is ripe.

Barack Obama won the great tax-cut showdown of 2010 — and House Democrats don’t have a clue that he did.

In the deal struck this week, the president negotiated the biggest stimulus in American history, larger than his $814 billion 2009 stimulus package. It will pump a trillion borrowed Chinese dollars into the U.S. economy over the next two years — which just happen to be the two years of the run-up to the next presidential election.
This is a defeat?

If Obama had asked for a second stimulus directly, he would have been laughed out of town. Stimulus I, was so reviled that the Democrats banished the word from their lexicon throughout the 2010 campaign. And yet, despite a very weak post-election hand, Obama got the Republicans to offer to increase spending and cut taxes by $990 billion over two years — $630 billion of it above and beyond extension of the Bush tax cuts.

No mean achievement.
After all, these are the same Republicans who spent 2010 running on limited government and reducing the debt. And this budget-busting occurs less than a week after the president’s deficit commission had supposedly signaled a new national consensus of austerity and frugality.

Some Republicans are crowing that Stimulus II is the Republican way — mostly tax cuts — rather than the Democrats’ spending orgy of Stimulus I.
That’s consolation?
This just means that Republicans are two years too late.
Stimulus II will still blow another near–$1 trillion hole in the budget.

At great cost that will have to be paid after this newest free lunch, the package will add as much as one percent to GDP and lower the unemployment rate by about 1.5 percentage points. That could easily be the difference between victory and defeat in 2012.

Obama is no fool. While getting Republicans to boost his own reelection chances, he gets them to make a mockery of their newfound, second-chance, post-Bush, tea-party, this-time-we’re-serious persona of debt-averse fiscal responsibility.

And he gets all this in return for what?
For a mere two-year postponement of a mere 4.6-point increase in marginal tax rates for upper incomes. And an estate-tax rate of 35 percent — it jumps insanely from zero to 55 percent on Jan. 1 — that is somewhat lower than what the Democrats wanted.

No, cries the Left: Obama violated a sacred principle.
A 39.6 percent tax rate versus 35 percent is a principle?
“This is the public-option debate all over again,” said Obama at his Tuesday news conference.
He is right.

The Left never understood that to nationalize health care there is no need for a public option because Obamacare turns the private insurers into public utilities.

The Left is similarly clueless on the tax-cut deal: In exchange for temporarily forgoing a small rise in upper-income rates, Obama pulled out of a hat a massive new stimulus — what the Left has been begging for since the failure of Stimulus I, but was heretofore politically unattainable.

Obama’s public exasperation with this infantile leftism is both perfectly understandable and politically adept. It is his way back to at least the appearance of centrist moderation. The only way he will get a second look from the independents who elected him in 2008 — and who abandoned the Democrats in 2010 — is by changing the prevailing (and correct) perception that he is a man of the Left.

Hence that news-conference attack on what the administration calls the “professional Left” for its combination of sanctimony and myopia. It was Obama’s Sister Souljah moment. It had a prickly, irritated sincerity — their ideological stupidity and inability to see the “long game” really do get under Obama’s skin — but a decidedly calculated quality, too.
Where, after all, does the Left go?
Stay home on Election Day 2012?
Vote Republican?No, says the current buzz, the Left will instead challenge Obama for the Democratic nomination.

Really now? For decades, African-Americans have been this party’s most loyal constituency. They vote nine-to-one Democratic through hell and high water, through impeachment and recession, through everything. After four centuries of enduring much, African-Americans finally see one of their own achieve the presidency. And their own party is going to deny him a shot at reelection?

Not even Democrats are that stupid.
The remaining question is whether they are just stupid enough to not understand — and therefore vote down — the swindle of the year just pulled off by their own president.

MSU Stands By Professor!

The story begins at Michigan State University(MSU), with a mechanical engineering professor named Indred Wichman.
Wichman sent an e-mail to the Muslim Student's Association.

The e-mail was in response to the students' protest of the Danish cartoons that portrayed the Prophet Muhammad as a terrorist.
The group had complained the cartoons were 'hate speech.'

Enter Professor Wichman.
In his e-mail, he said the following:

Dear Muslim Association,

As a professor of Mechanical Engineering here at MSU, I intend to protest your protest.

I am offended not by cartoons, but by more mundane things like beheadings of civilians, cowardly attacks on public buildings, suicide murders, murders of Catholic priests (the latest in Turkey), burnings of Christian churches, the continued persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt, the imposition of Sharia law on non-Muslims, the rapes of Scandinavian girls and women (called 'whores' in your culture), the murder of film directors in Holland, and the rioting and looting in Paris France.

This is what offends me, a soft-spoken person and academic, and many, many of my colleagues. I counsel you dissatisfied, aggressive, brutal, and uncivilized slave-trading Muslims to be very aware of this as you proceed with your infantile 'protests.'

If you do not like the values of the West - see the First Amendment - you are free to leave.

I hope for God's sake that most of you choose that option.
Please return to your ancestral homelands and build them up yourselves instead of troubling Americans.

As you can imagine, The Muslim group at the university didn't like this too well.

They're demanding that Wichman be reprimanded, that the university impose mandatory diversity training for faculty, And mandate a seminar on hate and discrimination for all freshmen.

Now, the local chapter of CAIR has jumped into the fray.
CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, apparently doesn't believe that the good professor had the right to express his opinion.

For its part, the university is standing its ground in support of Professor Wichman,

Saying the e-mail was private, and they don't intend to publicly condemn his remarks.

We are in a war!

The "DICK ACT of 1902" . . .

CAN’T BE REPEALED (GUN CONTROL FORBIDDEN) The Trump Card Enacted by the Congress Further Asserting the Second Amendment as Untouchable.

The Dick Act of 1902 also known as the Efficiency of Militia Bill H.R. 11654, of June 28, 1902 invalidates all so-called gun-control laws. It also divides the militia into three distinct and separate entities.

The three classes H.R. 11654 provides for, are the organized militia, henceforth known as the National Guard of the State, Territory and District of Columbia, the unorganized militia and the regular army.

The militia encompasses every able-bodied male between the ages of 18 and 45. All members of the unorganized militia have the absolute personal right, and 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms of any type, and as many as they can afford to buy.

The Dick Act of 1902 cannot be repealed; To do so would violate bills of attainder and ex post facto laws which would be yet another gross violation of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
The President of the United States has zero authority without violating the Constitution to call the National Guard to serve outside of their State borders.

The National Guard Militia can only be required by the National Government for limited purposes specified in the Constitution (to uphold the laws of the Union; To suppress insurrection and repel invasion). These are the only purposes for which the General Government can call upon the National Guard.

Attorney General Wickersham advised President Taft, “the Organized Militia (the National Guard) can not be employed for offensive warfare outside the limits of the United States.”

The Honorable William Gordon, in a speech to the House on Thursday, October 4, 1917, proved that the action of President Wilson in ordering the Organized Militia (the National Guard) to fight a war in Europe was so blatantly unconstitutional that he felt Wilson ought to have been impeached.

(Earlier)- During the war with England, an attempt was made by Congress to pass a bill authorizing the president to draft 100,000 men between the ages of 18 and 45 to invade enemy territory, Canada. The bill was defeated in the House by Daniel Webster on the precise point that Congress had no such power over the militia as to authorize it to empower the President to draft them into the regular army and send them out of the country.

The fact is, that the President has no constitutional right, under any circumstances, to draft men from the militia to fight outside the borders of the USA, and not even beyond the borders of their respective states.

Today, we have a constitutional LAW which still stands in waiting for the legislators to obey the Constitution which they swore an oath to uphold.

Charles Hughes of the American Bar Association (ABA) made a speech which is contained in the Appendix to Congressional Record, House, September 10, 1917, pages 6836-6840 which states: “The militia, within the meaning of these provisions of the Constitution is distinct from the Army of the United States.”

In these pages we also find a statement made by Daniel Webster, “... that the great principle of the Constitution on that subject is that the militia is the militia of the States and of the General Government; And thus being the militia of the States, there is no part of the Constitution worded with greater care and with more scrupulous jealousy than that which grants and limits the power of Congress over it.”

“This limitation upon the power to raise and support armies clearly establishes the intent and purpose of the framers of the Constitution to limit the power to raise and maintain a standing army to voluntary enlistment, because if the unlimited power to draft and conscript was intended to be conferred, it would have been a useless and puerile thing to limit the use of money for that purpose. With over 300 Million guns in the United States, the federal CORPORATE government (federal gov't defined as corporation under 28 U.S.C. Section 3002 (15) and the states are subdivisions of the corporation, 28 U.S.C. Section 3002 (10), cannot ban arms or stop people from defending themselves against a tyrannical government.

I read somewhere that just the State of North Carolina can call up 20-30 divisions of unorganized militia (would be about 200,000-300,000 armed North Carolinians) on a moment's notice. Imagine the State of Texas or Oklahoma if that's the case?

Amazingly, even if the US tries to ban all arms through backdoor measures like domestic violence laws (Violence Against Women Act, 18 U.S.C. Section 922 (g)) or through an unconstitutional U.N. declaration adopted by our current Marxist unconstitutional Congress, no treaty can supercede the Constitution!

"This [Supreme] Court has regularly and uniformly recognized the supremacy of the Constitution over a treaty." - Reid v. Covert, October 1956, 354 U.S. 1, at pg 17.

This case involved the question: Does the NATO Status of Forces Agreement (treaty) supersede the U.S. Constitution?

"... No agreement with a foreign nation can confer power on the Congress, or any other branch of government, which is free from the restraints of the Constitution."

Article VI, the Supremacy clause of the Constitution declares, "This Constitution and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all the Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land...’

"There is nothing in this language which intimates that treaties and laws enacted pursuant to them do not have to comply with the provisions of the Constitution nor is there anything in the debates which accompanied the drafting and ratification which even suggest such a result..."

"It would be manifestly contrary to the objectives of those who created the Constitution, as well as those who were responsible for the Bill of Rights – let alone alien to our entire constitutional history and tradition – to construe Article VI as permitting the United States to exercise power UNDER an international agreement, without observing constitutional prohibitions." At this point the Court paused to quote from another of their Opinions; Geofroy v. Riggs, 133 U.S. 258 at pg. 267 where the Court held at that time that... "The treaty power as expressed in the Constitution, is in terms unlimited except by those restraints which are found in that instrument against the action of the government or of its departments and those arising from the nature of the government itself and of that of the States. It would not be contended that it extends so far as to authorize what the Constitution forbids, or a change in the character of the government, or a change in the character of the States, or a cession of any portion of the territory of the latter without its consent."

"Assessing the GATT/WTO parasitic organism in light of this part of the Opinion, we see that it cannot attach itself to its host (our Republic or States) in the fashion the traitors in our government wish, without our acquiescing to it."

The Reid Court continues with its Opinion:
"This Court has also repeatedly taken the position that an Act of Congress, which MUST comply with the Constitution, is on full parity with a treaty, the statute to the extent of conflict, renders the treaty null. It would be completely anomalous to say that a treaty need not comply with the Constitution when such an agreement can be overridden by a statute that must conform to that instrument."

The U.S. Supreme court could not have made it more clear:
TREATIES DO NOT OVERRIDE THE CONSTITUTION, AND CANNOT, IN ANY FASHION, AMEND IT !!!

The Obama administration has nominated an anti-gun zealot as the U.S.’s top gun cop.

The Obama administration is moving into high gear in putting gun-control advocates into important government positions.

The administration’s nominee to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), Andrew Traver, should be of particular concern.

His attacks on the civilian use of so-called 'assault weapons' raise real questions about his willingness to distort the truth for political purposes. The person nominated to be the nation’s top gun cop shouldn’t use inaccurate descriptions to scare people into supporting gun control.

Mr. Traver is the special agent in charge of the BATFE’s Chicago field division. Therefore, he knows what was covered by the federal assault-weapons ban that sunset in 2004.

But in November 2009, NBC interviewed Traver and reported: “Traver says the power and randomness of the heavy caliber, military-style weapons make them so dangerous not only to people, but to police. They’re so powerful, body armor can’t withstand a hit, and they’re so difficult to control, their bullets often get sprayed beyond the intended targets, striking innocent victims even when they’re in their own homes.”

The list of problems with Mr. Traver’s claims is very long.
If he really believes that these weapons fire unacceptably “heavy caliber” bullets, he is going to have to ban virtually all rifles.
(Including...) Small-game rifles — guns designed to kill squirrels and rabbits without destroying too much meat — typically fire .22-caliber bullets, which are only slightly smaller than the .223-caliber bullets fired by the M16 (used by the U.S. military since Vietnam) and the newer M4 carbine (used in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars). Deer-hunting rifles fire rounds that are very similar to those used by the AK-47.

Speaking of M16s, M4s, and AK-47s, Traver is correct when he states that the guns covered by the federal assault-weapons ban were “military-style weapons.”

But he fails to note that this really just deals with style — the cosmetics of the guns, not how they actually operate. The guns covered by the ban were not the machine guns actually used by the military, but civilian, semi-automatic versions of those guns.

The civilian version of the AK-47 may look like the guns used by militaries around the world, but it is different. It fires essentially the same bullets as deer-hunting rifles at the same rapidity (one bullet per pull of the trigger), and does the same damage.

On penetrating body armor, Mr. Traver leaves out one important detail: Rifles in general are often able to penetrate body armor simply because their bullets travel faster than those fired from handguns. The same can be said for going through the walls of houses.

But if he had said that deer-hunting rifles can often penetrate walls and lower-level types of body armor, it is unlikely that his comments would have generated the same fear.

Unfortunately, Mr. Traver has done more than make clearly inaccurate claims about so-called “assault weapons.”

He has supported banning .50-caliber rifles, and regulations that would force many gun shows to close down, and the Chicago handgun ban, and repealing the Tiahrt Amendment, which protects sensitive trace data from being misused in frivolous municipal lawsuits against gun makers.

He also worked with the Joyce Foundation, which has funded gun-ban groups such as the Violence Policy Center, on the “Gun Violence Reduction Project.”

The fact that Mr. Traver uses the same misleading claims as groups such as the Brady Campaign shouldn’t make it too surprising that gun-control groups are applauding his nomination.

Nor is Traver’s nomination very surprising after President Obama appointed two strong anti-self-defense members to the Supreme Court.

But Mr. Traver’s nomination is dangerous.
Making up claims about guns to demonize them is beyond what is acceptable for someone who wants a position in which he will be regulating American gun ownership.

Now the truth; For the third year in a row, violent crime has declined in the United States while increasing numbers of American citizens own firearms and are licensed to carry, a trend that belies predictions of anti-gunners that more guns will result in more crime, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

Preliminary data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report shows that the violent crime rate went down 5.5 percent in 2009, compared to statistics from 2008. This covers all four categories of violent crime: murder, robbery, aggravated assault and forcible rape. Violent crime went down 4 percent in metropolitan counties and 3 percent elsewhere, according to the FBI.

At the same time, the agency’s National Instant Check System reports continued increases in the number of background check requests and the National Shooting Sports Foundation has reported increased federal firearms excise tax allocations to state wildlife agencies, an indication that more guns and ammunition are being purchased.

“This translates to one irrefutable fact,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “There are more guns in private hands than ever before, yet crime rates have declined.

In plain English, this means that gun prohibitionists have been consistently wrong. Higher rates of gun ownership have not resulted in more bloodshed, as the gun ban lobby has repeatedly forecast with its ‘sky-is-falling’ rhetoric.

“According to the FBI,” he continued, “the murder rate fell last year 7.2 percent in larger cities. Robbery declined more than 8 percent and forcible rape was down 3.1 percent.

It might just be that criminals are less likely to attack someone out of fear their intended victim is armed. Robbers might be discouraged by the growing potential that the clerk behind the counter is willing to fight back. Maybe would-be rapists are deterred by the possibility that they might get shot.

“For many years,” Gottlieb observed, “anti-gunners made all kinds of wild predictions that higher rates of gun ownership and the expansion of shall-issue carry permits would leave neighborhoods awash in blood. The data proves otherwise. America should turn its back on the gun prohibition lobby and their insidious policy of victim disarmament.”

This is what they do not want you to see, they want the anti-gun establishment to bolster tp the ignorant masses that crime goes up when there are more weapons in the hands of law-abiding citizens.
Nothing could further from the truth.

We all applaud the successful thwarting of the Christmas-Tree Bomber and hope our government continues to do all it can to keep us safe.
However, the latest round of publications of leaked classified U.S. documents through the shady organization called Wikileaks raises serious questions about the Obama administration’s incompetent handling of this whole fiasco.

First and foremost, what steps were taken to stop Wikileaks director Julian Assange from distributing this highly sensitive classified material especially after he had already published material not once but twice in the previous months?
Assange is not a “journalist,” any more than the “editor” of al Qaeda’s new English-language magazine Inspire is a “journalist.”
He is an anti-American operative with blood on his hands. His past posting of classified documents revealed the identity of more than 100 Afghan sources to the Taliban.
Why was he not pursued with the same urgency we pursue al Qaeda and Taliban leaders?

What if any diplomatic pressure was brought to bear on NATO, EU, and other allies to disrupt Wikileaks’ technical infrastructure? Did we use all the cyber tools at our disposal to permanently dismantle Wikileaks? Were individuals working for Wikileaks on these document leaks investigated? Shouldn’t they at least have had their financial assets frozen just as we do to individuals who provide material support for terrorist organizations?

Most importantly, serious questions must also be asked of the U.S. intelligence system. How was it possible that a 22-year-old Private First Class could get unrestricted access to so much highly sensitive information? And how was it possible that he could copy and distribute these files without anyone noticing that security was compromised?

The White House has now issued orders to federal departments and agencies asking them to take immediate steps to ensure that no more leaks like this happen again. It’s of course important that we do all we can to prevent similar massive document leaks in the future. But why did the White House not publish these orders after the first leak back in July?
What explains this strange lack of urgency on their part?

We are at war.
American soldiers are in Afghanistan fighting to protect our freedoms.
They are serious about keeping America safe. It would be great if they could count on their government being equally serious about that vital task.

One of American's leading politicians today called for WikiLeaks to be reclassified as a terrorist organisation after the latest release of top secret intelligence documents.

Congressman Peter King, the incoming chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, claimed that the data breach was 'worse than a military attack.'
'I am calling on the attorney general and supporting his efforts to fully prosecute WikiLeaks and its founder for violating the Espionage Act,' the Republican said.

He added he had written to the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to ask if the group could be classed as a terrorist organisation.

'(The release) has put American lives at risk all over the world,' he said.

'This is worse even than a physical attack on Americans, it's worse than a military attack.'

The Obama administration was today attempting damage limitation after the publication of 250,000 top secret documents from embassies across the world.

Highly embarrassing missives from American diplomats revealed their real impressions of world leaders and highly sensitive political discussions.

These included the revelations that Mrs Clinton had asked for surveillance of UN diplomats and that the Saudi royal family had urged an attack on Iran.

But the leaks so far appear to have been less damaging than first thought. Instead anger has turned on WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. He is already facing allegations of rape in Sweden and Australia police are considering if he had broken any laws in releasing the information.

The British government was reeling from a wave of damaging revelations which emerged in the biggest intelligence leak in history.

Secret U.S. embassy cables portray David Cameron as a 'political lightweight' and describe how a former Labour minister was a 'hound dog' who persistently chased women.

There were also sensational claims of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ by Prince Andrew, who is a UK trade envoy.

Downing Street today condemned the disclosures but said that officials expected several more days of revelations.

'The leaks and their publication are damaging to national security in the United States and in Britain, and elsewhere,' a spokesman said.

The information come in a tranche of 250,000 classified documents released by WikiLeaks, which today confirmed it had come under cyber attack ahead of the release.

Fifty years ago, William F. Buckley wrote a memorable complaint about the fact that Americans do not complain enough. His point, like most of the points he made during his well-lived life, is, unfortunately, more pertinent than ever. Were he still with us, he would favor awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which he received in 1991, to John Tyner, who, when attempting to board a plane in San Diego, was provoked by some Transportation Security Administration personnel.

When Buckley was asked how he came up with topics for three columns a week, he jauntily replied that the world annoyed him that frequently. The fecundity of the world as an irritant was on display one winter evening in 1960 when Buckley found himself in an insufferably hot car on a New Haven Railroad commuter train from Grand Central Station to his Stamford, Conn., home.
Everyone was acutely uncomfortable; no one was complaining.

"In a more virile age, I thought, the passengers would have seized the conductor and strapped him down on a seat over the radiator to share the fate of his patrons." But he had "nonchalantly walked down the gauntlet of eighty sweating American freemen, and not one of them had asked him to explain why the passengers in that car had been consigned to suffer."

Buckley, who was gifted at discerning the metaphysical significance of the quotidian, thought that he saw civilization tottering on its pedestal.
He was not mistaken:

"It isn't just the commuters, whom we have come to visualize as a supine breed who have got onto the trick of suspending their sensory faculties twice a day while they submit to the creeping dissolution of the railroad industry. It isn't just they who have given up trying to rectify irrational vexations. It is the American people everywhere."

Happily, not quite everywhere today. Not anywhere where Tyners are.

When TSA personnel began looking for weapons of mass destruction in Tyner's underpants, he objected to having his groin patted. A TSA functionary, determined to do his duty pitilessly - his duty is to administer the latest (but surely not the last) wrinkle in the government's ever-intensifying protection of us - said: "If you're not comfortable with that, we can escort you back out, and you don't have to fly today."

Tyner: "I don't understand how a sexual assault can be made a condition of my flying."

TSA: "This is not considered a sexual assault."

Tyner: "It would be if you weren't the government. . . ."

TSA: "Upon buying your ticket, you gave up a lot of rights."

Oh?
John Locke, call your office.

The theory - perhaps by now it seems like a quaint anachronism - on which the nation was founded is, or was: Government is instituted to protect preexisting natural rights essential to the pursuit of happiness. Today, that pursuit often requires flying, which sometimes involves the wanding of 3-year-olds and their equally suspect teddy bears.

What the TSA is doing is mostly security theater, a pageant to reassure passengers that flying is safe. Reassurance is necessary if commerce is going to flourish and if we are going to get to grandma's house on Thursday to give thanks for the Pilgrims and for freedom. If grandma is coming to our house, she may be wanded while barefoot at the airport because democracy - or the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment; anyway, something - requires the amiable nonsense of pretending that no one has the foggiest idea what an actual potential terrorist might look like.

But enough, already.
Enough trivializing important values - e.g., air safety - by monomaniacal attempts to maximize them. Disproportion is the common denominator of almost all of life's absurdities. Automobile safety is important. But attempting to maximize it would begin (but by no means end) with forbidding left turns.

Bureaucracies try to maximize their missions. They can't help themselves. Adult supervision is required to stand athwart this tendency, yelling "Stop!"

Again, Buckley: "Every year, whether the Republican or the Democratic Party is in office, more and more power drains away from the individual to feed vast reservoirs in far-off places; and we have less and less say about the shape of events which shape our future."
The average American has regular contact with the federal government at three points - the IRS, the post office and the TSA. Start with that fact if you are formulating a unified field theory to explain the public's current political mood.

Muslim Group Advises Women Wearing Hijabs to Allow TSA ‘Enhanced Pat Downs’ Only on Head and Neck Area

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has issued a travel warning to Muslim airline passengers on U.S. aircraft in response to the Transportation Safety Administration’s "enhanced pat down" policy that went into effect in late October.

CAIR said Muslims who object to full-body scans for religious reasons should know their rights if they are required to undergo a pat-down, including asking for the procedure to be done in a private place.

In addition, CAIR offered a “special recommendation” for Muslim women who wear a hijab, telling them they should tell the TSA officer that they may be searched only around the head and neck.

In the “special recommendations for Muslim women who wear hijab,” it states:   "Before you are patted down, you should remind the TSA officer that they are only supposed to pat down the area in question, in this scenario, your head and neck. They SHOULD NOT subject you to a full-body or partial-body pat-down.”

It also states: “Instead of the pat-down, you can always request to pat down your own scarf, including head and neck area, and have the officers perform a chemical swipe of your hands.”

The new TSA pat-downs involving “head-to-toe” screening techniques follow recent airliner bombing attempts. Passengers who reject a full-body scan or who are selected for secondary screening may be searched using the enhanced pat-down.

“Pat downs are one important tool to help TSA detect hidden and dangerous items such as explosives,” a TSA statement issued on Oct. 28 stated.   “Passengers should continue to expect an unpredictable mix of security layers that include explosives trace detection, advanced imaging technology, canine teams, among others.”

Posted on its Web site under “TSA’s Head-to-Toe Screening Policies,” the agency said how people are dressed may lead to closer inspection, including baggy or loose clothing. Those policies also include individuals being searched by a “professional” of the same sex.

“It is TSA's policy that passengers should be screened by an officer of the same gender in a professional, respectful manner,” the policy reads.

In February, the Figh Council of North America, a group of Islamic scholars, issued a fatwa, or religious ruling, that full-body scanners violate Islamic law.

“It is a violation of clear Islamic teaching that men or women be seen naked by other men and women,” the ruling states. “Islam highly emphasizes haya (modesty) and considers it part of the faith. The Qu’ran has commanded the believers, both men and women, to cover their private parts.”

CAIR endorsed the fatwa, according to a Feb. 21 article in the Detroit Free Press.

I voted for George Bush.
I voted for him in 2000, and again in 2004.

Initially, I was just eager to see a move from the Clinton theatrics, policies and practices to a more Conservative, more respectful occupant in The White House. I really didn't care who it was, as long as it was a Conservative.

Then September 11, 2001 happened.
All bets were canceled...

I think most Americans were in such deep shock after 9/11 that it likely didn't matter who was in The White House, as long as the office holder was respectful, sincere and showed a willingness to go after the people who attacked us.

George Bush fit the bill.

Many of us didn't know what kind of President he would turn out to be under normal circumstances. But we gave him the benefit of the doubt and he didn't betray our trust.

Sure... Everybody on the Left wants to vilify him now, but he carried the flag high and proud. Could you have dealt with such circumstances?

This article by Jim Angle starts out with the assumption that President Bush is 'reshaping his legacy'. I haven't read the book yet, but I really don't think President Bush is the kind of man that would want to go back in history to 'reshape' our view of what he did or how he did it...
But, I'll reserve judgement untill after I read "Decision Points".

President Bush and His Memoirs

In his new book, President Bush takes a different approach to presidential memoirs. In "Decision Points," he lays out 14 decision points in his presidency, many not of his own choosing but rather forced on him by events.

Terry Holt, a former aide says, "when you read this book, you're gonna see a guy that really had the weight of world literally on his shoulders for almost every moment of the 8 years of his presidency."

And it started early, when terrorists launched the worst attack on American civilians in our history-- the day now known simply as 9/11. From then on, the war against terrorists and those who might help them defined the rest of the Bush presidency.

The U.S. soon launched attacks against Al Q'aeda and its supporters in Afghanistan.

Then came the war in Iraq. President Bush explains in the book how the US had spent years working through the United Nations, an effort to contain Saddam's ambitions for weapons.

"Saddam Hussein didn't just pursue weapons of mass destruction. He had used them," Bush writes. "He deployed mustard gas and nerve agents against the Iranians and massacred more than five thousand innocent civilians."

The latter is a reference to a chemical attack on a Kurdish village in Halabja where men, women and children fell where they were standing.

That episode and others, convinced President Bush and intelligence agencies the world over that Saddam was hiding a massive weapons program including nuclear. And the former President tells Fox's Sean Hannity he was shocked when none were found.

"Unbelievably frustrating," he says. "Of course it was frustrating. It -- everybody thought he had WMD. Everybody being every intelligence service, everybody in the administration.
Hannity responded, "A lot of Democrats said it." President Bush added, "Yes, a lot of members of Congress." In fact, the most prominent of democrats -- those who ran for President against Mr. Bush -- repeatedly expressed the same conviction.

Former Senator Al Gore said in 2002 that, "Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to completely deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."

The same year, Senator John Kerry said, "The threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real."

And he argued that required action."I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his (Saddam's) hands is a threat, a grave threat, to our security and that of our allies in the persian gulf region."

Once President Bush had made the decision, he wrote a letter to his father, who not only served as President but also tangled with Saddam Hussein himself. The younger Bush wrote to his Dad telling him he had ordered US troops into war. "I know i have taken the right action and do pray few will lose life. Iraq will be free, the world will be safer."

His father, the first President Bush, had fashioned a coalition of 34 nations to kick Saddam's invading forces out of Kuwait and chase them back into Iraq.

Bush the younger wonders about what might have happened had US forces gone after Saddam at that point, but he readily notes that the mission his father had asked Congress to approve was limited, and when the Iraqi forces had been pushed back into Iraq, fighting all the way, he withdrew US forces.

And when his son sent forces to Iraq, his father wrote, "You are doing the right thing...you have done that which you had to do."

"Maybe it helps a tiny bit," his father wrote, "as you face the roughest bunch of problems any President since Lincoln has faced: you carry the burden with strength and grace..."

A chapter in the ensuing debate over Iraq also angered Vice President Dick Cheney. He wanted the President to pardon his aide, Scooter Libby, who was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice in the investigation of who outed CIA officer Valerie Plame. She was involved in a dispute over pre-war intelligence.

The president decided to only commute the sentence and explains the move saying

"The jury verdict should be respected. In one of our final meetings, I informed Dick that I would not issue a pardon."

The Vice President was not happy, Mr Bush writes. "He stared at me with an intense look. "'I can't believe you're going to leave a soldier on the battlefield,' he said."

President Bush also faced controversies over entirely domestic matters, the biggest of which was Hurricane Katrina.

The former President writes that in Mississippi, "Eighty miles of coastline had been obliterated."

The storm missed New Orleans and it initially appeared safe. But then a storm surge broke though the levees and it suffered devastating flooding.

The President had worried as the storm was approaching because local officials were not acting. A concerned President Bush called Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco. "What's going on in New Orleans?," he asked.

Mayor Nagin had not ordered a mandatory evacuation and the President implored the Governor to step in.

"The mayor's got to order people to leave. That's the only way they'll listen. Call him and tell him," he urged.

Mayor Nagin finally did, but when the flooding came, the federal government couldn't help out unless asked.

"I was stuck with a resistant governor," Mr Bush writes, "and an antiquated law. I wanted to overrule them all. But at the time, I worried that the consequence could be a constitutional crisis."

But right or wrong, the Bush administration got most of the blame. And the former President writes that it, "eroded citizens trust in their government...and cast a cloud over his second term."

As I said, I'm going to reserve judgement about President Bush's supposed 'reshaping' of his legacy.
And, I'm looking forward to reading "Decision Points".

2010 Election Was A Stong Showing For Pro-Gun Candidates!

Tuesday's election was about more than just the Republicans taking back The House and gaining seats in The Senate!
It was, of course, a repudiation of Obama's policy and practices.
Americans do not want to be a socialist country! PERIOD!

And, we saw an encouragingly strong turnout for Pro-Gun candidates and widespread support for The Second Amendment and the entire Shooting Sports Industry!

NSSF reports...
Following an unprecedented and robust midterm NSSF Voter Education campaign, including the establishment of an NSSF Political Action Committee, the 2010 elections proved to be exceptionally strong for pro-industry candidates at both the federal and state levels. In the election, Republicans took back control of the House of Representatives while picking up six seats in the Senate and 10 governorships.

Though the Democrats maintain control of the Senate, pro-industry/gun Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) won re-election -- a move that keeps either anti-gun senators Chuck Schumer (D) or Dick Durbin (D) from assuming the leadership position.

At the state level, pro-gun/hunting measures fared very well. Three of four states overwhelmingly passed Right to Hunt and Fish measures, including: Arkansas, South Carolina and Tennessee. The state of Kansas passed, with 90 percent approval, the right to keep and bear arms. And in Montana, financing measures for big- game hunting were approved.

Also worth noting at the state level is the New York State Senate election results. This year NSSF waged a significant battle to defend the Empire State against ill-conceived microstamping legislation. Our win, largely attributable to NSSF being able to successfully educate state legislators on the problems of microstamping, may once again be tested as control of the state senate awaits final poll results in several close races.

In California, the projected winner in the race for Attorney General, Kamala Harris (D), will likely certify firearms microstamping as being unencumbered by patent restrictions, a move that will result in the implementation of the already passed microstamping law. NSSF is continuing to engage on this issue and will update industry members and enthusiasts as information becomes available.

Ya know, back in the day, we would use terms to describe people that would now be considered derogeratory. We said all kinds of things about people we didn't like, we didn't understand, or didn't know. Sure it was small minded... But it was honest criticism. And... times have changed.

But there is one term we used that immediately came to mind when I heard about this upcoming trip The President of The United States is goin to make to India.

If you're old enough, maybe you remember it too? You know, the "N" word followed by "Rich". "N***** Rich". Remember?

This was a term used to describe folks that came into big money unexpectedly and didn't know how to behave with all that new cash.

I think that's what we're seeing here.

This jackass of a President we have is throwing money around like a drunken sailor!

Let's see... The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $4.13 billion per day since he's been in office, and let's not forget that massive stimulus bill that will cost $814 billion over 10 years, and now he wants to go to India and spend even more of our money!

It's reported that the presidential entourage will have 40 aircraft, including BOTH of the Air Force Ones that will ferry the president. Plus six armoured cars, including four Barack Mobiles and a Cadillac!

3 'Marine One' choppers will be dissassembled, shipped, then re-assembled over there. A guy's gotta have his Marine One! There's golf to be played in India!

And, they're renting out the entire Taj Mahal! The ENTIRE hotel! Not 4 or 5 floors... THE ENTIRE PLACE! 500+ rooms!

This guy is a total disgrace to our country. He thinks being President entitles him to live like a muslim oil prince or a Mexican drug lord! Remember, this is a guy that won't even publish his birth records! But, we're stuck paying the freight for his world adventures!

In Wake of Williams Firing, Republicans Want NPR Funding Examined

Three potential 2012 Republican presidential candidates chimed in Thursday on the firing of NPR news analyst Juan Williams, with two of them calling on Congress to scrutinize NPR's federal funding.

Williams was ousted Wednesday night for comments he made on Fox News about Muslims. But former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) all called NPR's move an act of censorship and political correctness.

"While I have often enjoyed appearing on NPR programs and have been treated fairly and objectively, I will no longer accept interview requests from NPR as long as they are going to practice a form of censorship, and since NPR is funded with public funds, it IS a form of censorship," Huckabee said in a statement. "It is time for the taxpayers to start making cuts to federal spending, and I encourage the new Congress to start with NPR."

House Republican Leader John Boehner (Ohio), who could be House speaker next year, said that "it's reasonable" to examine federal subsidies for NPR, which he called a "left-wing radio network."

“We need to face facts – our government is broke," Boehner told the conservative National Review. "Washington is borrowing 37 cents of every dollar it spends from our kids and grandkids. Given that, I think it’s reasonable to ask why Congress is spending taxpayers’ money to support a left-wing radio network – and in the wake of Juan Williams’ firing, it’s clearer than ever that’s what NPR is."

Conservatives saw the Williams firing as a chance to drive a wedge issue by criticizing media outlets, such as NPR, which they say are too sympathetic to left-wing points of view.

The long-time commentator told Fox News's Bill O'Reilly, "Look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."

NPR explained Williams's firing in a statement saying his comments were "inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR."

NPR operates using both private and public money, though most of their revenue comes from non-public sources.

Gingrich, who was the top House lawmaker from 1994-1998, said that Congress should investigate NPR and consider cutting its funding.

"The U.S. Congress should investigate NPR and consider cutting off its money," he said on Fox News, calling the incident "a total act of censorship."

Palin put her response on her widely read Twitter account, saying "NPR defends 1st Amendment Right, but will fire u if u exercise it. Juan Williams: u got taste of Left's hypocrisy,they screwed up firing you."

Prosecutors Ask to Drop Anti-Islam Charges Against Dutch Lawmaker Geert Wilders

The criminal case against Geert Wilders appears to be unraveling.

Wilders, the controversial Dutch lawmaker and filmmaker known for his outspoken stances against Islam, was facing prosecution in his home country for allegedly inciting racial hatred. But prosecutors in the case said Friday they've asked the court to drop the charges.

Many of us thought all the while this was a trumped up charge to appease the Muslim community. Now, it seems that Dutch prosecutors have finally come to their senses...

Wilders has compared Islam to Nazism and called for a ban on the Koran. He argues he has a right to freedom of speech and that his remarks were within the bounds of the law.

Immigration-related issues have dominated politics in the Netherlands and much of Europe over the past decade. Wilders has drawn comparisons with populists such as the late Jorg Haider in Austria and Jean-Marie Le Pen in France.

His stances resound deeply with Dutch voters, who have reconsidered their famous tolerance amid fears their own culture is being eroded by immigrants who don't share their values. Around 6 percent of the Dutch population is now Muslim.

Among Wilders' many remarks at issue in the trial, an editorial in newspaper De Volkskrant stands out.

"I've had enough of Islam in the Netherlands; let not one more Muslim immigrate," he wrote in the paper. "I've had enough of the Koran in the Netherlands: Forbid that fascist book."

The flamboyant, bleach-blond politician also has called for taxing clothing commonly worn by Muslims, such as head scarves -- or "head rags," as he called them -- because they "pollute" the Dutch landscape.

He may be best known for the 2008 short film "Fitna," which offended Muslims around the world by juxtaposing Koranic verses with images of terrorism by Islamic radicals.
